Abstract: Genetic diversity, the variation of DNA within populations, is essential for species to adapt to environmental challenges and global change. Despite its fundamental role, it has been persistently overlooked in major global biodiversity policies. This webinar details the successful multi-year effort to correct this omission, culminating in the historic inclusion of genetic diversity in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted at COP 15 in 2022. We will showcase the strategic approach that bridged the gap between science and policy, utilizing a combination of influential scientific articles, targeted outreach, and direct in-person participation to effectively inform and persuade policymakers. We present how this crucial policy milestone was achieved and to learn about the upcoming activities planned to ensure the effective implementation and monitoring of these new global goals, securing the foundation of all biodiversity
