PhD Scholarships at PlantLab, SSSUP (PI)

The Ph.D. Programmes at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna are designed for talented graduates from around the world, who wish to carry out study and research in an international campus based in Pisa. Pisa is a medieval town in Tuscany, with a great quality of life and with a university system that is unique in Italy, with few equals in Europe, where every thing is designed to help you get the most out of your studies and research.

Ph.D. students at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna are supervised by tutors in a personalized program in order to make the most of your potential and to guide you towards a future full of success, whatever profession you may decide on.

The Plantlab hosts PhD students from two different programs:

The two Ph.D. programs are substantially equal in terms ofscholarship and academic duties, although the Agrobiosciences program aims at the study of molecular processes that regulate plant physiology using both model species and plants of economical interest, while the Agrobiodiversity program is more specifically devoted to the exploitation of biodiversity for crop improvement and breeding.

Candidates are selected on the bases of:

  • their curriculum vitae
  • a project proposal
  • an oral interview (for the Agrobioscience program only)

It is highly recommended that the project proposal pertains to one of the research lines already active in our lab and especially:

  • crosstalk between hormones and carbohydrate metabolism
  • adaptation of plant development to environmental cues (low oxygen)
  • regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis
  • crop biofortification with iodine

Candidates are welcome to contact Prof. Perata or Dr. Licausi for discussion of possible topics of Project proposals.
