Present Position Researcher at the National Research Council (CNR) - Institute of Biosciences and BioResources of Bari.
Actually his field of interest are the collection, the biochemical characterization and conservation of vegetable germplasm at the “Thematic Centre for the Mediterranean Plant Biodiversity”, in Policoro (MT).
Work Experiences 1982/1995 -
His scientific activity, concernig especially the biochemistry field, was conducted at the Mitochondrial Center (CNR) and at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Bari.
During this period he partecipated to several national and international conferences and symoposia; moreover he was the responsable of the management of biochemical laboratory and of a Electron Spin Resonance.
The main object of his research was the metabolism of phospholipids and its relation with the structure and function of membranes, especially in rat liver mitochondria.
His activity was divided into the following topics:
1) purification of particular types of cytoplasmic proteins that play an important role on the transport of phospholipids between biological membranes;
2) synthesis of Spin-Label phospholipid and application of EPR technique to study the role of phospholipids in biological membranes;
3) characterization, mechanism and physiological role of the processes of spontaneous and catalysed exchange of phospholipids between natural and artificial membranes (liposomes).

He wotked at the CNR-Coastal Marine Institute Section of Taranto, producing publications and technical reports. He was the head of MURST Research Project (Plans Expansion of the Network of Scientific and Technological Research) titled "Technological Innovation in the Production of edible molluscs lamellibranch".
He conducted a survey on the water-soluble proteins of three species of Mediterranean Calappidae: C. granulata (L.1758) and two species introduced recently (C.rissoana and C. tuerkayana) in order to provide additional information about their specificity. Expertise in the field of purification of proteins and enzymes, he conducted studies on enzymes characteristic of different cellular and extracellular compartments in the digestive gland of Mytilus galloprovincialis, enzymes that catalyze reactions important for the life of marine organisms. He also conducted the observations on seasonal variations in the level of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, catalase, glutathione peroxidase/reductase), enzymes GOT, GPT, isocitric, succinic and malic deidrogenase in mussels reared in Mar Grande of Taranto.
He has done studies on variations of the same antioxidant enzymes and NADPH cytochrome P450 reductase (biomarkers of environmental pollution) in the digestive gland of Mytilus galloprovincialis under stress from heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and PCBs in various concentrations.
Since 1995 to 1997 he conducted a three-year cycle of investigation related to the characterization of the components of ecosystems biocenotical brackish breeding Peneus japonicus and analysis of correlations between biotic and abiotic components and improving the penaeidae. Tutorial and Teaching Activities He was member of the Board of Biological Chemistry examinations for the degree course in Biological Sciences and Natural Sciences at the University of Bari durind the academic Year 89-93.
He was the tutor of four thesis for the degree course in Biological Sciences at the University of Bari and the supervisor of experimental degree thesis at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bari. He was the supervisor of the Master’s degree in Biological Sciences and Natural Sciences, University of Bari from 1988 to 1992.
He is qualified expert in "Radiation Protection" achieving the certificate at the University of Bari Faculty of Medicine.
From 22/3/93 to 22/9/94 he coducted studies on specific enzymes extracted from plants with inhibitory activity towards proteases at the ENEA Research Center Trisaia , sector INN-BIOAG.

Research Activities He coordinate numerous research activities interacting actively with institutional subjects.
From 19/04/2003 to date he carried out his activities at the Institute of Plant Genetics, based in Bari.
He works to the Thematic Centre for the Conservation of Plant Mediterranean Biodiversity based in Policoro (MT) to intensify the relations of cooperation on joint projects and institutional with the Basilicata region.
In this center his scientific work is especially focused on the assessment of biochemical parameters of some plant species.
2004/2005 within the "Plant Genetic Resources for the production of substances of concern for human health. MIUR Proclamation No. 1105" he conducted a qualitative and quantitative determination on the content of unsaturated fatty acids in seeds of Borago officinalis found in various parts of southern Italy
2005/2006 He was involved in the biochemical characterization of a collection of local ecotypes of Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.
2005 He obtained from the Ministry of Health the approval of a research project titled "Modalities of uses of chemicals and health of the farmers in the Metapontino’s area", where he is the scientific coordinator on the investigation of pesticide analisys on the vegetables.
2007 He Collaborated in the European project on the genetic resources of Cynara spp. (Cynares) through studies of agronomic and biochemical characterization on a collection of artichoke.
2009. He worked in Cambridge (BOSTON) MA-U.S.A. during a program of professional learning organized by CNR.
2010 Short-term mobility to the Genetic Resource Center (NGRC) of ALNARP (Sweeden) e then to the “Global Seed Vault” (GSV) in Spitsbergen (Svalbard).

2012/2014 Head of the following projects in chemistry laboratory:
• Biodiversità di specie ad elevato valore nutraceutico ed agroenergetico”, AGRO.BIO.
• “Tutela della biodiversità di leguminose tradizionali degli ambienti lucani e valorizzazione mediante innovazioni agronomiche, nutraceutiche e di mercato” - : VAL.BIO.LUC.;
• “Valorizzazione di componenti funzionali della filiera del comparto lattiero-caseario regionale, mediante attività di sperimentazione e ricerca di acidi grassi essenziali (Omega 3, Omega 6) nella razione alimentare del bestiame per lo sviluppo di prodotti pre-commerciali”. PIF (Progetto Integrato di Filiera della Regione Basilicata)
